Leadership for Life
The Friends International Life Leadership Course is a unique opportunity for international students who want to rise to the challenge of leadership. Learn invaluable lessons for all contexts of life and embark on the life-changing journey of leadership growth.
Our Institute of Leadership and Management accredited course covers 6 foundational leadership principles through engaging and interactive presentations with additional small groups for mentoring and encouragement.
Each session will be from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, every Tuesday from the 17th February to 24th of March on the Stag Hill Campus (01 TB 00 - Teaching Block ground floor next to the main entrance).
** Please note that this is a course for over 18's only. Though this course is aimed at international students, students from the UK are welcome to sign up. **

Session topics:
Defining Leadership – why leadership is for everyone and how we can start growing our leadership skills.
Authentic Leadership – leading others well starts with leading ourselves well. We’ll look at the heart issues that make or break our ability to become respected and trusted leaders of others.
Selfless Leadership – in this session we reveal the secret to great leadership and why it transforms our thinking.
Responsible Leadership – it takes courage to confront your fears, take responsibility for your actions and accept your weaknesses.
Relational Leadership – great interpersonal skills are vital for great leaders. This session will reveal the importance of emotional intelligence (EQ).
Resilient Leadership - developing longevity in leadership requires resilience. This session introduces techniques to developing your resilience.
Growth Groups:
It is one thing to talk the talk, but will you walk the walk?
Growth groups are the essential coaching element of our leadership programme. This is when we will help you apply leadership theory to your specific context, coaching you to develop habits that ensure you grow as a leader. Small groups are facilitated by our volunteer Life Leadership coaches who all have experience in leadership from a wide range of fields.
The opportunity to meet with your coaches beyond the six sessions will be discussed during the course and depends on each coach's availability.
These sessions are often said to be the most valuable by students in their feedback.

Certificate of completion
All students who complete the Life Leadership programme will receive a certificate of completion. This can also be used to go towards completion of the University of Surrey Employability Award Scheme.
As of December 2019, this course has been accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (TILM). TILM are the "leaders in leadership", combining years of research, knowledge and innovation to champion the leadership agenda for all. Participation in the Friends International Life Leadership programme is a recognised pathway to individual membership with TILM.

Payment
The course costs £40 per student (inclusive of booking fees). Please get in touch if this is a barrier to being involved and we may be able to make arrangements to help you access the course.

We are so confident that you will find this course beneficial to your degree (and to your life!) that if you don't want to continue after the first session then we will refund your course costs!
Course Cancellation/Refunding Tickets
We have a minimum amount of students needed to run the course, if we don't reach this minimum then we reserve the right to cancel the event. All tickets will be refunded at the full cost. Refunds will also be available up until the start of the second session.
