Barry Kirsch Brings Fairy Robots to Life Explorers On May 9, A lovingly-restored 720-square foot cottage in Sanford surrounded by an English Country garden is the site of a creative gardening project that blends the knowledge of a Master Gardener with the intriguing fantasy world of tiny robots. Sound interesting? Barry Kirsch will be the guest speaker at Mead Botanical Garden’s Life Explorers program on December 7.
Kirsch, a retired photojournalist who diligently studied to become a certified Master Gardener, will share details of this one-of-a-kind project that has culminated in a book —“The Fairy Robots of Restoration Cottage.” He will describe the years long journey of how this unique gardening adventure came to be and share his experiences creating it. His specially-designed 5 1/2-inch tall robots will be on hand as well to highlight the gardening lessons he weaves throughout the book for astute readers to discover. Kirsch not only conceived the story that fills the pages of the book, but used his artistic talents to create the illustrations as well.
Kirsch describes the book as a gardener’s journal with beautiful illustrations and a fantasy spell to it. It is filled with sustainable gardening tips that are useful anywhere in the world. As a Master Gardener his goal is to teach others gardening in an earth-friendly way that can help troubleshoot issues and encourage thriving plants and flowers under a variety of climate conditions and environments.
The presentation is free of charge and coffee and light refreshments are served. There is a Q & A time following the presentation and Kirsch will be on hand to sign copies of this special book.
The Life Explorers Speakers Series is held in the Azalea Lodge of Mead Botanical Garden from 10-11:30 a.m. The program is free of charge with light refreshments and coffee served.
