On February 5th, 2025, 12 year old Cillian O’Brien from Galway suffered a catastrophic brain bleed and collapsed at school. Caused by a rare condition called an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM),a dangerous tangle of blood vessels in the brain, he was rushed to Temple Street Children’s Hospital for emergency surgery and spent weeks in intensive care. Hospitalised ever since, Cillian has already undergone several procedures and continues to receive treatment, including specialist radiosurgery in Sheffield this past week, as the AVM is too risky to remove with traditional surgery. In the meantime, Cillian continues his rehabilitation at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire. On weekends, he returns to Temple Street for continued care. Meanwhile, works are ongoing apace to remodel his home in Galway and erect a purpose built extension to allow Cillian return home. His Bring Cillian Home idonate fund is still active. Liam Kitson and Pat Ryan from QCM Cycling Club in Quin, intend cycling from Cillians Nana’s, Noreen O’Briens house in Quin to Cillians house in Galway city, and home again. The date we have picked is Saturday, December 20th. It’s a total of 144Km, which, in summer conditions is manageable. However, in the cold and winter, it’s a bit tougher! If the road conditions are bad, ie frost or snow, we will postpone and do it over Christmas, but, we can assure you, it will be done. Thus, we are asking for your support, a mere €5. The price of a cup of coffee! To support our event, you can purchase a line for €5 on Revolut. Go to the ‘Payments’ section of the app and press the +, put their Revtag for Liam ( @liam3bha ) or Pat ( @patricndqp ) into the search bar, select the correct profile, then follow the instructions to complete the transfer.
