In this edition of LI-MA Presents: New Work, the artists give the floor to a broad range of special protagonists. Amauta Garcia & David Camargo investigate the relationship between humans and volcanoes, Eoghan Ryan re-animates Oskar Matzerath - the main character from Günter Grass's The Tin Drum -, and Mateo Vega depicts well-known but often overlooked areas of urban infrastructure: a data center, a ring road and an abandoned mall. Marijn Ottenhof experiments with the context in which, and how, stories can be told. In her performative video The Governed Subject, the clubscene is the stage for a politically loaded narrative.
We can't wait to share and discuss these new works with the public! Michiel van Bakel, Eoghan Ryan and Mateo Vega will be present for a Q&A.
This evening, we will also launch a new publication A New Era for the Distribution of Media Art. The challenges and possibilities for the distribution of media art in the digital age will be discussed with researchers Stefan Glowacki and Rachel Somers Miles.

Michiel van Bakel – What Wide Web (2022)
In ‘What Wide Web?’ Van Bakel depicts the surreal wasteland of Rotterdam Maasvlakte and its forest of pylons. Are industry and nature evolving more into co-existence?
Amauta Garcia & David Camargo - Arrullo (2022)
How can we relate to the earth beyond its exploitation? How do the people, who have made land, relate to the volcanoes that create or destroy our worlds?
Marijn Ottenhof - The Governed Subject (2022)
Rave techno forms a way to channel disillusionment and trauma by employing destructive tools of its own, bringing a sense of violence into a contained space.
Eoghan Ryan - Doggerel (2022)
Rhythmically paralleling the nationalist tragedies of the past with those of today, in Doggerel Eoghan Ryan re-animates vestiges of Oskar Matzerath, the protagonist from Gunter Grass’s novel Die Blechtrommel.
Mateo Vega - Center, Ring, Mall (2023)
A multi-vocal triptych through peripheral sites of urban infrastructure: a data center, a ring road, and a run-down mall.
This event is made possible by the generous support of the AFK.
