GUITAR II
Welcome back, guitar players! In this 3-week mini session of Guitar II with Mz. Inez at LHYAC, we will be reviewing songs and other fundamental skills learned in Guitar I. This Intermediate class is a continuing curriculum for returning or continuing guitar students.
Guitar II follows the teaching method known as “Scaffolding" or "Differentiation," which will help all students to learn at their own level of experience while appropriately challenging each student individually. Through this course students will review all parts of their instrument and other equipment used, as well as their care and proper functionality. Students will also continue developing the ability to accompany other musicians. We will discuss a brief history of each new song students learn during this session. Oh yeah…there will be jamming!
Students will build on music theory fundamentals while the Teaching Artist will take time to review individual students' demonstrated skills and ability of the following:
- Open chords
- Chord chart reading and chord structure
- Rhythmic techniques and exercises
- Note values and repertoire review
- Scales
- Triads
- Tuning
- Barre chords
- Finger picking
- Right and left hand technique
- Reading of TAB notation
- Progressions
- Basic Transposing
Guitar II is designed for students ages 8 to 24 and is open to returning LHYAC Guitar II students and new students who pass a brief assessment. Please see pre-requisite info below.
*Pre-Requisite Class: LHYAC Guitar I (Beginner/Intermediate) or 2 years demonstrated experience and proficiency at an Intermediate level. After completing the Eventbrite registration, new students who are interested in joining Guitar II must send an email to [email protected] to be scheduled for a brief audition/assessment by the Teaching Artist prior to the start of classes to confirm enrollment.
Guitar II is taught by LHYAC Teaching Artist, Ms. Inez Woods. This class will have an 8 student maximum capacity. All classes have an adult support staff assistant in addition to the lead Teaching Artist to help ensure the best experience possible for everyone.
Students will meet twice weekly at the Lincoln Heights Youth Arts Center, Room 205, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Students are required to purchase and bring to each class:
- A 3-ring binder - preferably with a pocket window.
- A pencil
- Your instrument (if you choose to use your own rather than borrow from LHYAC)
All written music material and guitars will be provided by LHYAC, unless you choose to use your own instrument. Picks and tuners will be provided by LHYAC to be used in class only.
