L'histoire de l'Abbaye de La Cambre

D’apparence homogène, le bâti de l’abbaye de la Cambre est pourtant le fruit d’évolutions et de transformations opérées au cours des siècles par ses occupants. Si son histoire générale est largement commentée dans la littérature, le bâti en lui-même constitue une source de premier ordre pour la compréhension du site. L’observation archéologique permet en effet de glaner ci et là une série d’indices liés à la chronologie, aux matériaux et à leur mise en œuvre, aux transformations postérieures… C’est au travers de ces petits détails que se révèlent certaines clefs de lecture de ce patrimoine monumental. En circulant au cœur de ce complexe nous nous arrêterons sur divers éléments afin de redonner du sens au paysage monastique de la Cambre.

Hoewel het gebouw van de Ter Kamerenabdij homogeen lijkt, is het toch het resultaat van veranderingen en transformaties die in de loop der eeuwen door de bewoners ervan zijn doorgevoerd. Hoewel de algemene geschiedenis in de literatuur uitvoerig wordt besproken, is het gebouw zelf een primaire bron om de site te begrijpen. Dankzij de archeologische observatie kunnen we hier en daar een reeks aanwijzingen vinden die verband houden met de chronologie, de materialen en hun gebruik, en de latere transformaties... Het zijn deze kleine details die bepaalde sleutels blootleggen om dit monumentale erfgoed te begrijpen. Terwijl we ons door het hart van dit complex verplaatsen, zullen we stilstaan bij verschillende elementen om betekenis te geven aan het kloosterlandschap van Ter Kameren. Although it appears to be homogeneous, the building of the La Cambre Abbey is nevertheless the result of changes and transformations carried out over the centuries by its occupants.
