About this Event

The Social Hub Barcelona and Filmin have the pleasure to present the LGTBIQ+ Film Days, a cinematographic event that will be celebrated throughout the 7th, 8th, and 9th of June. During these days The Social Hub Barcelona will stream three movies: "Moffie", "Blue Jean", and "My Emptiness and I", each of them exploring vital topics of inclusion, diversity, and transphobia.

As always, The Social Hub Barcelona aspires to be a platform to amplify the voices of all collectives, especially those that can feel marginalized or uncomprehended. Through these powerful feature films, we seek to generate an open dialogue and a bigger comprehension of LGTBIQ+ life experiences. As we have done previously, we hope this event doesn't only entertain, but also inspire and educate the attendees.

We invite everyone to join us during these three cinema and conversational days. Together, we can learn, grow, and work for a more inclusive and comprehensive world.

AFTERMOVIE: after every session, a DJ will be waiting for you upstairs on our rooftop, where you'll be invited to a free beer! Perfect time and environment to connect and contrast opinions.

Moffie (June 7th, 7pm)

Described as "a masterpiece" by the prestigious publication Variety, "Moffie" is a new movie from the Oscar-winning producers of "Ida". Presented at the last edition of the Venice Film Festival, the new film by Oliver Hermanus is based on the memoirs of André Carl van der Merwe, a well-known author who narrates his experience as a conscript in the military service in South Africa in the early 1980s, amid Apartheid, and as a gay man.

The Border War between Southwest Africa (now Namibia) and Angola led many young, white South Africans to fight in the border area. "Moffie" tells the story of an 18-year-old boy who enlists in the army where he is subjected to brutal training and where he experiences the cruelest forms of racism, brutality, and homophobia. It also illustrates how military service instilled the ideology of white supremacy and racial intolerance in hundreds of thousands of young men, who were barely eighteen years old. It also illustrates the need to eliminate homosexuality from South African society.

BLUE JEAN (June 8th, 7pm)

England, 1988. With Margaret Thatcher in power, the famous Section 28 is enacted, a homophobic law (only repealed in 2003) that prohibited "promoting homosexuality". Against this hostile backdrop Jean, a gym teacher, feels obligated to keep her sexuality a secret, which eventually pits her against her girlfriend Viv, who lives openly as a lesbian, and which explodes into paranoia when one of Jean's students starts frequenting one of the gay bars the couple goes to. Winner of the Audience Award at the Giornate degli Autori in Venice.

Mi vacío y yo (June 9th, 7pm)

Adrián Silvestre ("Sediments") directs this drama starring a sensational Raphaëlle Pérez playing a young woman who, after being diagnosed with gender dysphoria, begins an arduous journey to come to terms with her true identity. Nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Gaudí Awards and Best Fiction Screenplay at the Feroz Awards.

Raphi is a young, androgynous, and somewhat naive person. She writes poems and dreams of falling in love with Prince Charming. From her native France, she moves to Barcelona, where reality is far from what she projects. Doctors, colleagues, artists, and men she meets give her their advice, but only time and experience will help Raphi find her place in the world.
