About this Event
Writer and activist Steve Kulieke will enlighten us with his stories about 50 years of LGBTQ+ journalism, activism, and optimism. From his groundbreaking work at GayLife newspaper in his native Chicago to his career in California as national news editor at The Advocate and as a communications professional in the private sector and in the UC system—Steve will take you on a lively and entertaining journey spotlighting the historic struggle for gay equality. “During a remarkable period of LGBT visibility and progress, Kulieke was not only at the center of the action; he was integral to the community’s emergence as a social and political force.”—excerpted from Steve’s 2020 induction into the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame.
Q & A session will follow the talk – with cake! Admission is free with a one-book-minimum purchase. We will have beautiful books on and by LGBTQ+ artists, writers, photographers, and musicians for sale. Thank you for supporting independent bookstores.
