The LGBTQ Day on the Hill provides Iowans with the opportunity to engage directly with lawmakers at a critical time when anti-LGBTQ legislation continues to be introduced. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the legislative process and learn how to advocate for equality and fairness.Event Schedule:
10:30 - 11:45 Legislative Process 101 Training
Location: The Conservatory, East Village (315 E 5th St, Suite 2, Des Moines, IA 50309)
This training covers the legislative process, how bills move through the Capitol, the anti-LGBTQ+ bills we face this year, and actionable ways to get involved. It's your comprehensive guide to advocating for LGBTQ+ rights in Iowa.
11:45 - 11:50 Break
11:50 - 12:50 Storytelling Training Workshop
Location: The Conservatory, East Village (315 E 5th St, Suite 2, Des Moines, IA 50309)
This training will help you communicate how legislation directly affects you, giving you the skills that can be used to educate not only policymakers but anyone who needs to understand the harmful effects of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. Personal stories are one of the most powerful tools for creating meaningful change.
12:50 - 1:30: Lunch (Lunch provided to only those who attend the training)
1:30: March to the Capitol
2 PM: Public Rally in the Capitol Rotunda
