Announcing: Surrey LGBTQ+ Community Archive Pride Hub are excited to announce the launch of the Surrey LGBTQ+ Community Archive this March.
The Archive aims to preserve and share the incredibly diverse stories of Surrey’s LGBTQ+ residents. It will act as a repository for any items people wish to donate relating to Surrey’s rich queer history.
The Surrey LGBTQ+ Community Archive launches on 22nd March, where Pride Hub will host its first Collection Day – an opportunity for any and all donations to be made to the archive. The archive welcomes items of historical importance, whether that comes as newspaper or magazine clippings, artifacts from LGBTQ+ events or venues, or personal items linked to LGBTQ+ residents’ identities.
Items donated to the Archive will be made accessible to the public via an online Archive catalogue, where anyone can book in a viewing with the donated items.
Sam Powell, Pride Hub’s Volunteer Manager, says: “The team are always looking for ways that we can bring Surrey’s LGBTQ+ community together, to share their stories and leave a mark for generations to come. The archive acts as an important step in this mission. We really encourage the whole community to come together to bring their experiences to this archive, particularly from the older generations, whose stories it’s important we preserve and share.”
