About this Event
PA-MOJA (meaning “together” in Swahili) was established as a non-profit society by a group of teachers at Langley Fine Arts School in 2006. Together, we have made education attainable for hundreds of children. PA-MOJA is partnered with Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya and raises money for high school student scholarships in the communities that surround the conservancy. The scholarship program strengthens the good-will of the people towards the conservancy, which has a direct impact on the well-being and protection of wildlife. Locals are less likely to engage in illegal poaching when they see how the conservancy is helping their families.
High school education is not free in Kenya, and we strive to provide an education for bright students of low-income families. Each year we have been able to support 60 Kenyan students in our scholarship program! It costs $1000 to support one student for one year. This includes their room and board at boarding school, school fees, uniform and supplies. Today we have 18 schools throughout North America supporting PA-MOJA, as well as some incredible private donors and community businesses. PA-MOJA is now a program that operates under the Langley School District Foundation’s charitable mandate. Donations over $25 can receive a tax receipt through the Foundation. Because we are run by a group of volunteers, 90% of funds raised can go directly to supporting students in Kenya
