About this Event

On Thursday 6th June 2024 from 5.30pm, for London Festival of Architecture 2024, join Meanwhile Space for the third event in our series 'A temporary fix?'. A panel discussion around re-imagining spaces within undefined timeframes, we pose the questions: have the current standards become unrealistic? Is it still possible to deliver projects like Blue House Yard with today’s increased building regulations, constrained budgets and risk aversion?
How can we re-imagine problem and temporary sites when they are often expected to do everything - be flexible, sustainable, demountable, mixed-use, and all on shoe-string budgets. Are there particular design formats, materials and site requirements for unknown timeframes?
In partnership with the London Borough of Haringey, Meanwhile Space and Jan Kattein Architects designed and developed Blue House Yard, a former underused car park a few minutes' walk from Wood Green Station. Meanwhile Space have operated the project as a hub for local creatives, entrepreneurs and residents since 2017.
Before the panel session there will be open studio tours of Blue House Yard, with time for networking, food, entertainment and drinks after the discussion. The first 40 attendees will receive a drinks token to be used at Blue House Yard’s unique double decker bus bar Ludo's.
Agenda, Thursday 6th June:
5.30pm-6pm - Open studio tours of Blue House Yard
6pm-7pm - Panel discussion
7pm-8pm - Food, drinks and entertainment in the yard
