About this Event
Framed around themes of deep listening and paying attention to small details, ‘Listen Louder, Speak Closer’ is a series of six poetry/creative writing workshops facilitated by Amber Obasi, a Lewisham resident and sometimes writer, dabbling in poetry and short stories.
To mark the end of the series of workshops, we'll be hosting a final gathering where all participants who've attended the workshops are invited, along with friends and family and those interested in hearing the work of local writers, to connect and share their work in a supportive and relaxed environment. All take place on a Saturday, 12.30pm-2.30pm at Downham Library and the dates are:
In this session, we’ll have a showcase for anyone who has attended any session to come and share work developed during the session or inspired by the session. Friends, family and other spectators are also welcome.
The workshops, brought to you by Spread the Word and Lewisham Libraries, will be a space to slow down, relax, interact with and learn from others, and, above all, to be creative. You don’t need to be a ‘poet’ or ‘writer’ to come along, all that’s needed is a willingness to try and a desire to spend time being creative.
About Amber Obasi
Amber (they/she) is a South London raised Nigerian daydreamer, currently living in Deptford. They’re largely interested in time and practices which seek to unpeel and interrogate our relationship to it. Recently, their work has centred on place and play, mostly facilitating creative workshops to explore these themes. Currently they’re obsessed with the wind.
Accessibility
Downham Library is wheelchair accessible, with ample ground floor space and a large upstairs area which is accessible from the stairs and lift next to the café. There are accessible toilets.
If you require additional access provision in order to attend or take part in this event, for example, larger print handouts, please get in touch before the day at: [email protected]
