About this Event

This Level 2 CPD Accredited course is a 1 Day Classroom Training course. This course has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help.

We are proud as a training organisation to be able to deliver this course in small groups. We only allow a maximum of 6 learners to attend this course as this ensures learners receive the support they require from our Qualified Trainers.

Course Purpose

The Level 2 First Aid for Youth Mental Health CPD accredited course is suitable for anyone who actively connects with children such as parents, carers, teachers, youth group leaders and young adults.


The course has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help.


Successful learners can act as a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ in any environment in which they may deal with young people.


Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.

Entry Requirements

  • The course is available to learners aged 16 or over.
  • It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this course.

Accreditation

This Level 2 First Aid for Youth Mental Health is accredited by the CPD Accreditation Group.

Assessment Methods

The course is assessed through group work, discussions, exercises and the learner completes the assessment. Learners must successfully pass all parts of the assessment to be awarded the course.

There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred

Syllabus:

A range of subjects are covered including:

  • Define mental health
  • Indicate understanding of the stigma surrounding mental health
  • Identify factors that can affect a young person’s mental health
  • Understand the role of a first aider for mental health
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychosis
  • Eating disorders
  • Suicide
  • Self-harm
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

Certification

The course is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

All our courses are delivered by Trainers that have the required knowledge and experience to deliver this course and have a relevant qualification.

Course Duration: 7 hours (1 Day Course)

Where the training happens - We deliver this training course at our training room in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

The course price includes Refreshments, Car Parking Fees, Resources and Certification.

Other Information - We Support Young Minds a Mental Health Charity fighting for young people's mental health and we provide a donation from your course fee to our chosen charity.

* Your safety is important to us and We aim to provide as much notice as possible if a Training Session has to be cancelled by email however due to the current situation with COVID19 training sessions could be cancelled at short notice (on the day) if the allocated trainer has symptoms of coronavirus, has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus or the trainer receives a positive test result for coronavirus.

We will endeavour to arrange for another trainer to deliver the following course however in the event we cannot arrange another trainer to deliver the training session we will reschedule your course to another date available and we apologise in advance if this happens. You will receive an email with full details as soon as possible and therefore please do check your inbox and junk/spam folders. The on-site staff at the CIBA building will be informed and a notice will be available on our centre door.
