About this Event
In January of 2023, Elizabeth (Liz) Siegel signed on as the Chief Curator of the Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM). A former veteran Curator of Photography and Media Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, Siegel is now part of the Museum’s senior leadership team and heads its Curatorial and Collections departments.
Marcelle Polednik, MAM’s director, was quickly won over by Siegel’s goal of expanding the museum’s national and global impact. “That aspiration is something I was really seeking,” Polednik says. As Chief Curator, Siegel—who has a PhD in art history from the University of Chicago—is responsible for the curatorial program, organizing exhibitions, and overseeing staff in a variety of areas from Design and Photography to Modern and Contemporary Art. At the same time, she is working to both expand the collection and make the art in the collection better known. According to Siegel, this means research and “generating new scholarship by collaborating with academics, artists and other institutions.”
Now a year plus into her position, we will be able to hear firsthand Siegel’s impressions of the collection, a few key acquisitions or planned acquisitions, and the museum’s plans for future exhibitions.“MAM has a great collection, it’s a beautiful building, and it has a terrific staff,” Siegel says. “There’s also this wonderful community of supporters around the museum that feel very passionately about the museum and its place in the city.”
Please join us for this program with Chief Curator Liz Siegel, who will provide us an informative talk on the museum and its future. There will be time for questions. Guests are welcome.
