Suicide prevention workshop for places of worship in the Black Community
About this Event

During this workshop, Dr. Josephine Ridley will provide education, support, and practical application to reverse the alarming increase of youth suicide in the Black community.

Goals: remove stigma, increase knowledge/skills, decrease fears, promote healing for many who hide their pain, place tools in the hands of the important first line of defense against suicide in the Black community and the Historical Black church.

Who is Dr. Josephine Ridley?

Josephine Ridley, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist, Owner of Ridley Behavioral Health, LLC, Assistant Chief of Psychology Service at the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, and currently serves as Coordinator of the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation’s Black Youth and Young Adult Suicide Prevention (BYYASP) initiative and Co-chair of the BYYASP Community of Practice. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), and Co-Editor of the international British Journal of Guidance and Counselling and provided Pre-employment Psychological Evaluations for the Public Safety Division for the City of Cleveland. Dr. Ridley holds multiple roles at the VA including Co-Chair of the Institutional Review Board and Program Director for the Cleveland VA’s Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Residency. She has served as a consultant for the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation, Lead Trainer of Trainers for Zero Suicide Institute’s Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk Workshop and is a certified Psychological Autopsy Investigator by the American Association of Suicidology.

Dr. Ridley has coordinated clinical psychology residencies, supervised residents, interns and practicum students. She has chaired and founded multiple committees and has been a consultant for companies, organizations, and hospitals for diversity and suicide related matters and previously served as Vice President of the Association of Black Psychologists, Greater Cleveland Chapter. Dr. Ridley has conducted workshops and seminars nationally and internationally for a variety of organizations and conferences. She is published in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of suicide, depression, and anxiety, has co-authored book chapters on suicide and mood disorders, and is active in research on depression and suicide. She is honored to have served as a member of the writing committee for the Suicide Prevention Plan for the State of Ohio and as a member of the Ohio Suicide Prevention Plan Implementation Team.
