Ros Jones’ first published novel ‘When I was A Girl’ tells the story of domestic abuse being passed from generation to generation. It asks whether our lives are a result of the programming we unconsciously receive from our parents and their parents before them or can the patterns be changed.

Ros wrote the novel during the pandemic when there were reports of an increase in domestic violence incidents against women and girls which made the themes of the novel even more pertinent.

The disturbing reality of domestic violence is that it will affect 1 in 3 women and 1 in 9 men in their lifetime. It has more repeat victims than any other crime yet is still the violent crime least likely to be reported to the police.

Ros is a supporter of Yorkshire domestic abuse charity IDAS and is hosting this special event to help raise funds for them during Domestic Violence Awareness Month by bringing together a range of experts and speakers to share stories advice and insight on this taboo subject. The aim of the event is to open up the conversation on an issue that will likely impact us all by helping empower attendees to help themselves and others.

We'll be looking at the different forms of abuse e.g. what is gas lighting? We'll be discussing abuse in the workplace and rights. We'll be inspired by stories of hope from survivors of domestic abuse and how to support yourself and others emotionally and mentally and we'll hear excerpts from Ros' novel and why this subject has had such a profound impact on her own life and journey.

All profits from tickets sold will be donated to IDAS.

Pay-it-forward tickets are also available to purchase to enable others to attend who may not otherwise we able to.
