ABOUT OUR EXHIBITIONS:
ASKING FOR A FRIEND
Asking For a Friend unites four women artists: Heidi Hankaniemi, Joan Wheeler, Lydia Viscardi, and Silvana Soriano. The exhibition borrows from the familiar mechanism of an advice column—with a twist—using distinct bodies of work to explore questions of love, pride, fear, and autonomy as a form of allyship and emotional community-building
BETWEEN STILLNESS & GROWTH
Jan Brandt’s solo exhibition, Between Stillness and Growth, explores the tension between bloom and decay through Brandt’s signature use of playful, tactile materials like puffy paint and glitter. Her Hothouse series navigates the fluid boundary between representation and abstraction, creating compositions that pulse with kinetic energy while incorporating moments of stillness.

Silvana Soriano’s works in Asking for a Friend draw deep inspiration from the writings of Brazilian author Clarice Lispector, whose exploration of women's inner lives and existential struggles resonates throughout Soriano's art. The four large collages on canvas and three smaller drypoint and china ink works reflect themes of intimacy, autonomy, and vulnerability, central to Lispector's literary universe. . Using a layered, textural approach, Soriano brings these literary figures to life, weaving together elements of their narratives into striking visual compositions.
Just as Lispector’s characters grapple with self-discovery and emotional depth, Soriano’s pieces delve into the personal, often hidden, experiences of women navigating their identities. Together, these works create a visual dialogue about resilience, community, and the shared human experience of seeking guidance, echoing the themes of emotional complexity and reflection found in the exhibition.

The Contemporary Art Modern Project (The CAMP Gallery)

The Contemporary Art Modern Project Gallery is a contemporary art gallery dedicated to raising awareness for emerging and mid-career artists with a unique emphasis on ultra-contemporary approaches to textiles and fiber art. Founded during the height of the pandemic by Melanie Prapopoulos, the gallery has gone on to create a distinctly academic and thought-provoking arts program in North Miami, and beyond. As a gallery, The CAMP remains steadfast in transparency both for the artist and for the collector, building bridges and connections from creation to acquisition. With a robust local and international roster, the gallery represents artists working in textiles and fiber, painting, photography, sculpture, and installation. Looking at art, as a whole, through a reactionary and interdisciplinary approach, the gallery operates as a space wherein creativity and reality co-exist.

The CAMP Galley is located at 791-793 NE 125th St. North Miami, FL 33161. The gallery is open Wednesday–Saturday, from 11 AM to 5 PM. Private tours can be scheduled by emailing [email protected] or calling 786-953-8807.
