“Psychedelia: The History and Science of the Mystical Experience” will be screened at The Plaza Theatre, Atlanta’s oldest operating and only independent cinema, on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 at 1:00 PM EDT. This one-time screening will follow with a panel discussion moderated by the filmmaker, featuring experts involved in Georgia’s evaluation of psychedelic treatment for military veterans.After decades of being outlawed, psychedelics have recently emerged as a promising treatment for a range of mental health issues like anxiety, depression, addiction, and PTSD. On August 30th of this year, the Georgia House Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee held a hearing to explore state funding for an Emory University study on the effects of psilocybin on PTSD among veterans. Many key experts in the state’s hearing will be featured on the panel discussion.
