About this Event
Let's be frank: There are a lot of reasons Americans might be thinking about moving to Europe these days.
And if you're in the research phase, you probably already know that you need a visa to move.
But what about the financial planning component?
Depending on where you want to move, there are very different financial potholes to be aware of.
For example, did you know that if you become a Portuguese tax resident while still holding a 401(k), you could be liable for up to 48% taxes on the Portuguese side if you take distributions?
While this might seem unfair considering the work you've done to carefully stock away funds for later, the fact is that cross-border financial planning is often essential for those who wish to transition to life in Europe without triggering expensive financial missteps.
We use Portugal as an example because it's an increasingly popular country for Americans moving from warm-weather places.
But, despite the example, if you have your heart set on Portugal, there is a way to make that decision financially viable for you. The key is advance planning with cross-border financial professionals specializing in that jurisdiction.
On the other hand, if you're open to considering other countries such as Italy, Spain, or France, there are many opportunities to support your foray into "European living" and help it live up to the hype, rather than becoming a headache.
Without further ado, we invite you to join us for 1:1 Financial Consultations, a unique opportunity for Americans to walk through their vision for moving to Europe with a qualified cross-border financial professional, Alex Ingrim.
Not only can Alex support on the professional side, but he has endless empathy for the experience of moving one's live abroad -- he's done it almost a dozen times, and currently lives in Florence, Italy with his wife and two young children.
Breaking it down
While most people only have to navigate the tax laws of the country they live in, Americans abroad face the additional challenge of complying with both local and US tax regulations. That’s where Liberty Atlantic Advisors come in.
We offer tailored financial and tax planning services designed to help clarify the best strategy for your situation and ease the sense of anxiety or confusion that often happens when trying to navigate cross-border regulations.
Our approach starts by reviewing your entire asset base, the Double Taxation Agreement (as applicable) between the US and your target country, your personal financial situation and goals to create a custom plan that supports your life and lifestyle for the long term.
Additionally, as a US-registered investment advisory firm, we are legally obligated to act in your best interests, ensuring that you receive personalized, transparent guidance.

- Americans who work and contribute to US retirement and savings accounts and want to plan for their distribution as a tax resident of a foreign country (e.g., minimize exposure to foreign taxes)
