SEE & DO: Test your knowledge in this colorful carnival-like bean bag toss game where you will match bean bags of questionable waste with the proper vessel with which to dispose of it.
MEET: Baltimore artist, Scott Pennington and a representative from the Water Pollution Control Plant
LEARN: What you can and cannot pour down the sink drain, flush in your toilet and put in your green cart.*
Match and toss bean bags with images of cotton swabs, dental floss, cat litter, human waste, toilet paper, cigarette butts, “flushable” wipes, etc. with the proper disposal vessel: sink, toilet, trash can or the green organics cart*. This colorful carnival game built specifically for Arlington by artist Scott Pennington is designed to accommodate two to three players at a time making it fun for friends and family! Learn how household waste impacts the County’s wastewater collection and treatment systems and how you can help.
The community partner for this project is the Water Pollution Control Plant. Located in South Arlington, the Water Pollution Control Plant treats 23 million gallons of wastewater each day from residences and businesses. The plant’s mission is to safely and economically process wastewater to protect the environment: especially Four Mile Run, the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. Future upgrades will focus on improving solids handling and resource recovery, while at the same time reducing the County’s reliance on fossil fuels.
*available for single family homes and as food scraps drop off point at 4300 29th Street South and at Columbia Pike Farmers Market.
