New Brunswick-born Acadians Julie Aubé, Katrine Noël and Vivianne Roy have been creating sparkling, multifaceted francophone folk-rock since 2012. Their initial minimalistic sets were dictated by the size of their touring vehicle: a Honda Civic. Their DIY roots were further cemented between 2014 and 2017 with stage costumes procured through a Moncton, N.B. thrift store two of them ran. While collecting old clothes, epistolary correspondence on postcards found at an old house inspired the lyrics of the album Boîte aux lettres, which sonically explores ‘70s pop and disco, influenced by travels to Montreal. Their 2024 album Tintamarre (an Acadian tradition of marching through one's community making noise with improvised instruments and other noisemakers) was born out of a writing retreat in Louisiana to strengthen pan-Acadian ties. This party album draws on that state’s inherent joie de vivre, assertive voice, and pride, while drawing on country, roots and classic rock with new, yet familiar sounding songs performed by a quintet solidified over the past decade.
