Join us as we celebrate the night sky of autumn and one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year — the Leonid Meteor Shower! Our friend, astronomer, author, and natural storyteller Stephan Martin will guide us through the bright and splendid starscape of a crisp fall evening in the mountains.
As meteors streak across the heavens, Steve will offer an orientation to the stars, constellations, and planets of the late fall sky. This is a wonderful time to see Saturn shining near its brightest for the year and to glimpse the majestic Andromeda Galaxy — a perfect target for binoculars! We’ll also look back at the fading stars of summer, including the Summer Triangle, Scorpius the Scorpion, and Sagittarius the Archer, while welcoming the constellations of autumn such as Pegasus the Winged Horse, Cygnus the Swan, and Lyra, the Lyre of Orpheus. Along the way, we’ll share timeless stories woven through these star patterns and get a preview of the brilliant winter constellations rising in the east.
Before the program begins, check in at the will-call list (no physical tickets required) and stop by the Farm Store for your favorite snacks: sodas, beer, wine by the glass or bottle, chips, chocolates, meat sticks, and other goodies.
What to Bring:
Check the weather and dress warmly for the cool mountain evening. We recommend blankets or camp chairs, good shoes for walking the grounds, and any telescopes, binoculars, or spyglasses you’d like to bring along for an even closer look.
