Join KEET-TV, the Humboldt County Library, and the McKinleyville Kiwanis Club for Leonardo da Vinci Day! Celebrate da Vinci’s genius with a fun, free, hands-on event packed with activities inspired by the upcoming Ken Burns documentary LEONARDO DA VINCI premiering on PBS November 18 &19, 2024.Event Highlights:
11 am: Start with a kid-friendly 10-min screening of the fil introducing da Vinci.
Noon: Adults, enjoy a half-hour preview screening of the documentary, followed by a panel discussion on da Vinci's lasting legacy
1 pm-ish: We will show the second screening of LEONARDO DA VINCI
FOR KIDS from 11 a.m to 2 p.m: Da Vinci STEAM Stations for KIDS.
Flying – Wings of Imagination: Build and test paper planes and twirling devices
to learn about aerodynamics!
Anatomy – Inside Out: The Human Body: Explore human anatomy through 3D models, light cube X-rays, and tactile felt kits.
Bridges – Build-a-Bridge: Collaborate to build large bridges and experiment with mini
bridge-building kits!
Parachutes – Perfect Parachutes: Design parachutes using coffee filters and test
how soft your design can land.
Boats – Buoyant Boats: Craft aluminum foil boats and see how many marbles your boat can hold before sinking!
Backward Writing – Mirror, Mirror: Leonardo’s Secret Writing: Try your hand at da Vinci’s famous backward
writing style using a mirror!
Trebuchet – Pom Pom Launch: Build mini trebuchets and launch pom-poms across the room—how farcan you go?
