The installation in the cathedral’s Crypt comprises a display of the framed hands of 25 top British sportswomen and men, produced by an international award-winning body-cast sculptor to benefit the baby loss support charity, Abigail’s Footsteps.The display can be viewed throughout the period of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games from July 19- August 31

The sculptor - Louise Giblin MRSS

Sculptor Louise Giblin grew up on the Isle of Wight and lives and works on the Kent/ East Sussex border. She was selected to represent UK in the G7 of Art, Italy, 2017. She won the Lorenzo Il Magnifico Gold, 1st place for Sculpture at the Florence Biennale, October 2017. In April 2018, she received an ATIM International Award for Contemporary Art at the Museum of Art and Design New York. She has been a Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors since 2010 and a Vice-President of Abigail’s Footsteps since 2020.
Louise is predominantly known for life casting - covering famous people such as Michael Portillo and Heather Mills, models and private clients with plaster or alginate. She then usually makes a copy of her model covered with biographical and other imagery which is cast into bronze. She has cast 34 high achieving sportsman and her ‘Body Casting Olympians’ at the Mall Galleries London 2012, featured sculptures produced from Team GB models including Sally Gunnell OBE, Dame Kelly Holmes and Kriss Akabusi MBE.
