Why Take Paws?
It’s coming up on one year with Hank as our foster- he came from a hoarding case in Holden, LA of over 100 dogs! His previous family was just trying to help take in stray dogs when there was NO animal control in their rural town to help, and without access or funds to spay and neuter them all, it quickly got out of hand.
Since then, just for Hank-Take Paws has funded:
-a dental cleaning with over 20 teeth extracted because of overcrowding (common in small dogs when baby teeth don’t fall out naturally , and start rotting out the rest of their mouth)- $800+
- a years worth of heartworm and flea medication -$150+
-neuter and vaccines -$300+
-a vet visit for a skin infection with meds $100+
Thanks to @lowcostanimal, @msahcares and @eastriverside_vet rescue/employee discounts plus generously donated medications, we saved quite a bit on all of these costs, but not without a lot of networking, grants, social media posts, generous donors who saw the cry for help, and volunteer WORK.
Helping Hank come out of his shell has been a labor of love, but certainly not my easiest foster case. We have fostered over 30 animals and never have had a foster this long.
He requires a home with at least one dog friend- gentle and confident to help him trust new human caretakers. A home that knows he’s probably going to take months to come out of his shell and show any affection. A home that knows he’s probably not the biggest fan of new friends, and is ok helping him feel comfortable and safe.
