On May 10th, 2024, up to 12 poets compete in a show that spans decades! Lemon Pepper Poetry Slam’s The Pop Slam challenges writers and performers to cook up their best works based on the pop culture of their assigned generation. Will the 80s Team clutch victory with love poems and leg warmers? Will the 90s Team pull through with odes to Nickelodeon nostalgia? Or will the win go to Team 2000s with an epic retelling of the looming Y2K bug?
As an interactive poetry experience, we encourage you to join the fun by picking an era and wearing your best period-appropriate attire. We’re talking big hair and denim jackets for the 80s; bucket hats and plaid skirts for the 90s; trucker hats and low-rise jeans–go all out! We’re giving away a prize for the night’s best dressed.
Doors open at 7:00 PM with a non-competitive open mic for those interested in sharing their art–spots are limited, so make sure you arrive early to sign up. It’s a night complete with games, prizes, food, snacks, (non-alcoholic) drinks and the state’s best spoken word poetry competition at The Labyrinth (619 S Spring St, Little Rock, AR 72204).
