About this Event
Can Hawai'i Protect Its Floral Future?
Once a thriving agricultural export, Hawai'i’s floriculture industry is now at a crossroads. Nearly 90% of lei flowers are imported, threatening authenticity, sustainability, and the cultural traditions that define who we are. Rising costs, labor shortages, and generational turnover make one thing clear: the time to act is now.
Join us for EAT THINK DRINK 31: Lei of the Land – Protecting Hawai'i’s Floral Industry as we explore how Hawai'i can preserve and revitalize one of its most visible and culturally significant industries. From weddings and events to exports and everyday lei giving, this timely conversation brings together growers, cultural practitioners, and industry leaders committed to keeping Hawai‘i’s floral heritage alive.
Look forward to:
- Thought-provoking keynote and panel featuring leaders in floriculture, business, and culture
- Real talk on how imports, inspections, and policies shape Hawai'i’s floral future
- Strategies to strengthen local flower farming through infrastructure, labor, and market growth
- Why protecting Hawai'i’s flowers and lei matter to our identity and economy
- A chef-crafted menu inspired by Hawai'i’s flowers and foliage
- A conversation with farmers, florists, cultural practitioners, policymakers, and advocates
