About this Event
Storytelling Walk with James Lawrence (aka )
Join our first ever creative in residence as he guides you on a walk to connect you to the landscape through stories and nature.
Together we'll weave our way along the ancient Haltwhistle Burn Gorge, as experienced guide James brings the landscape to life with magic, myth and legend.
Meet James, the Man About Country, your guide to the wonders of Britain's landscapes. A passionate storyteller and outdoor enthusiast, James has dedicated over five years to leading explorative walks and fostering a connection with nature.
So, whether you've walked the Burn a thousand times or never visited before, this is a chance to see it through fresh eyes, deepening your connection with nature and encountering some of Northumberland's ancient myths and legends.
Where we'll be
Meet 12:30 at the Centre of Britain Memorial, Market Square, Haltwhistle
The walk will take approx 1.5 hours with stops, and will follow the historic Burn Gorge Path, which weaves Northwards out of Haltwhistle
We will finish at the Field Shelter creative studio, opposite the Milecastle Inn.
Attendees are responsible for their own transport back to Town, but we have aligned the end time of the event with the 15:18 departure of the AD122 bus from the Milecastle Inn.
What we'll do
James will lead us along the path, stopping frequently to recount local folk tales and stories, along with some of his own crafted writings. We'll also have the chance to connect with nature along the way, with some guided exercises.
Ending at the Field Shelter studio for hot drinks, you'll have the opportunity to share your own stories from the local area in an informal setting.
What to wear/bring
Dress warmly, bring a waterproof and wear sensible shoes for walking. The Burn footpath is mostly surfaced and level, but there are some uphill sections and grassy areas which can get muddy. The event will go ahead whatever the weather, with the exception of dangerous conditions, in which case we will cancel and refund your ticket.
Feel free to bring snacks with you to keep you going!
Tickets
Ticket are sold on a Pay As You Can basis. You choose the price you pay, according to what you can afford. This is to ensure the event is more financially inclusive.
Access
The Burn footpath is a gentle walk for most people, and will incorporate plenty of stops, but please note you will be standing or walking for up to 2 hours. Unfortunately this event will not be suitable for those using wheelchairs, buggies or other mobility aids, as the path surface becomes very uneven and narrow towards the end of the walk. The Field Shelter has seats, but is not wheelchair accessible.
