About this Event

Legends and layers: Myth of Folklore in Trauma Healing

Join us at 2205 York Rd and online on November 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM (Eastern Time) for a deep dive into the power of myth and folklore in the healing process. Discover how ancient stories and legends can help us navigate and heal from trauma in our modern lives. This event is perfect for anyone interested in psychology, storytelling, or simply looking to explore new avenues of healing.

Myth and folklore provide timeless narratives that mirror human struggles with suffering, transformation, and resilience. This training explores how therapists can use these stories symbolically within play therapy to help children, adolescents, and adults process trauma. Participants will learn to draw upon archetypes such as the hero, healer, trickster, and sage to support identity formation and meaning-making. Interventions will include symbolic storytelling, sand tray enactments, and creative arts activities inspired by myths and legends. Special attention will be given to respecting cultural narratives, avoiding appropriation, and ethically adapting stories for therapeutic use.

Objectives:

  • Describe the therapeutic benefits of using myths and folklore in play therapy.
  • Demonstrate at least two interventions incorporating mythic storytelling into sessions.
  • Analyze the role of archetypal play in children’s trauma narratives and identity development.
  • Explore the role of cultural narratives in resilience and meaning-making in play and therapy.
  • Apply storytelling interventions to support children and families in trauma recovery.
  • Evaluate ethical and cultural considerations in integrating folklore into play practice.
