About this Event
We are thrilled to host the Birmingham launch of the third edition of LEFT CULTURES magazine with editors PHIL WRIGGLESWORTH & COLUM LEITH joining a selection of contributors for a night of left-inspired chat & readings.
The evening will be hosted by Voce Books co-owner & contributor to the third edition, Clive Judd.
LEFT CULTURES is a contemporary space to champion all kinds of voices on the Left, whether that be Socialist, Communist, Anarchist or anything in between. The Left has always been fizzing with ideas to change society & Left Cultures celebrates the Left’s cultural past, discussing gems of storytelling within film, literature, music, art & poetry. It does this by asking culture creators practicing today who are willing to stand up & fight for their beliefs to tell a personal story of how culture from the past has influenced & inspired them. All the points of reference from both past & present come together to make a wonderfully rich, diverse & beautifully illustrated lexicon of Left Culture. As Tony Benn said ‘there is no final victory, as there is no final defeat. There is just the same battle. To be fought, over & over again. So, toughen up, bloody toughen up’.
This is one of our FUTURES events, dedicated to non-fiction books that help us to rewire our consciousness & zero in on the ideas that help shape the architecture of our collective futures.
