Leela: The Divine Play’ is a Bharatanatyam solo that explores the universal and timeless idea of the divine as a cosmic player, whose presence manifests through stories, emotions, and energies that shape the universe. With many names and faces, the essence remains, flowing steadfast, in ways that evade and mystify those who seek the beyond. Drawing inspiration from the Margam structure, this work weaves together traditional compositions to present the many dimensions of divinity in Indian philosophy and culture - tender and compassionate, fierce and protective, playful and mischievous, transcendent and eternal. Each piece is an ode to the ‘Leela’ of a deity, highlighting both the devotional and philosophical aspects of the form, inviting audiences to witness the divine play that unfolds within and around us, into a space where the sacred and the human intertwine.
