šŸ“š Lecture: The History and Science of Houseplants"

šŸŽ¤ Speaker: Matthew Gaston

Join us for an enlightening evening with Matthew Gaston as we delve into the fascinating world of houseplants. These humble yet robust living beings possess complex physiological and biochemical processes, along with a rich historical backdrop.

In this engaging lecture, Matthew will explore the science behind houseplant care, including the importance of lighting and the role of pot design in plant growth and development. We’ll also trace the rise of houseplants, from their domestication and symbolic status in Victorian England to the thriving rare plant auction scene today.

Matthew Gaston is a dedicated botanist and educator who teaches about the wonders of plants in non-traditional settings. With a B.S. in Genetics & Plant Biology and an M.S. in Tropical Plant and Soil Science, he has spent years sharing his passion for plants with diverse audiences. Previously, as the Director of Education at Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin, he inspired countless young minds on field trips. Now, he brings his expertise to nurseries, bars, lecture halls, and live streams across the country.
