📚 Lecture: “Women Artists of the Surrealists Movement”
🎤 Speaker: JR Pepper
Join us for an enlightening evening with JR Pepper as we delve into the fascinating world of women artists who played a transformative role in the Surrealist movement. While Surrealism is often associated with male figures and iconic images of melting clocks, many groundbreaking contributions came from talented women who quietly reshaped the narrative.
In this engaging lecture, JR Pepper will highlight how these artists moved beyond traditional archetypes like the femme fatale and femme enfant, asserting their place within the Surrealist community. Their compelling works reflect the shifting emotional landscapes of their subconscious minds and the tumultuous backdrop of a world on the brink of war.
JR Pepper is an adjunct professor of art history at CUNY Brooklyn College, a lecturer, photographer, and self-described "professional eccentric." With a BA and MA specializing in Surrealism and spirit photography, her work has been featured in various galleries and publications, including Haunted America: FAQ and Vice.com. She's also a regular lecturer at The Brooklyn Brainery and The Odd Salon.
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a fresh perspective on the contributions of women in Surrealism with the knowledgeable JR Pepper!
