📚 Lecture: "Who Gets to Farm in the Future California?"

🎤 Speaker: Marisa Raya

Join us for an insightful evening with Marisa Raya as she explores the complex history and hopeful future of land stewardship and farming in California. From Native Californians to Mexican Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, and White Americans, many have contributed to the state's agricultural legacy. However, exclusion and discriminatory policies have historically limited land access, creating a land market that makes sustainable farming challenging and limits the State's response to climate change.

In this compelling lecture, Marisa will discuss the importance of diverse small farmers in restoring the ecosystem and fostering a sustainable food system in California's future. Participants will engage with historical maps of California's agrarian landscapes, envision the future of farming, and discuss current reparations, healing, and agricultural land equity policymaking.

Marisa Raya is a California Geographer and economic equity researcher at the University of California, Davis, with over 20 years of experience in organizing equity initiatives in the Bay Area. She is a professional land use planner, economic strategist, and lecturer in Planning at Stanford University. Marisa is also completing her Doctorate in Geography with a focus on Native American and African American Studies.

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in vital conversations about land relations and the future of farming in California!
