🧠Lecture: "Welcome Back to the Gilded Age!"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Charley Binkow
Between 1870 and 1900, Americans lived through what Mark Twain famously called the “Gilded Age,” a period of extraordinary wealth, rapid industrial growth, and dazzling innovation—developments that masked deep inequality, political corruption, and social unrest.
In this thought-provoking lecture, Dr. Charley Binkow asks whether we are living through a Gilded Age of our own. By comparing the late 19th century with the present, he explores how economic booms can conceal structural problems, how inequality reshapes democracy, and what history can teach us about the promises, pitfalls, and possibilities of a new gilded age.
Dr. Binkow earned his PhD in American History from Boston University in 2023 and currently teaches American and World History at Loyola High School in Los Angeles.
