📚 Lecture: “Warhol, Studio 54 & NYC's Underground Music Scene”
🎤 Speaker: Prof. Tom Rizzuto
Few artists have had a cultural impact like Andy Warhol. From his iconic pop art to his experimental films, Warhol's work reached fans across multiple mediums. However, not as many people are familiar with his influential connections to New York City’s underground music scene.
This lecture will delve into Warhol's role as the manager and artistic director of the Velvet Underground, his presence at legendary venues like CBGB, Danceteria, and Studio 54, and his advocacy for early hip hop artists. We will also explore the vibrant personalities surrounding Warhol, including Madonna, Fab Five Freddy, Lou Reed, and Basquiat, and the influences exchanged among them.
Dr. Tom Rizzuto is a professor of music history, guitar, and media at Molloy University and SUNY Old Westbury. His research focuses on the intersections between music and cultural shifts, and his work has appeared in various publications and podcasts.
Don’t miss this chance to uncover the fascinating ties between Warhol and the music scene that shaped a generation!
