📚 Lecture: “The Lies of the Lens: Photography and the Myth of Truth”

🎤 Speaker: Professor JR Pepper

For years, photography has been revered as a medium that represents truth—a captured moment, frozen in time, seemingly impossible to distort. Yet, even before digital editing, photographers were adept storytellers, skillfully bending reality through lighting, framing, and specific moments.

In “The Lies of the Lens,” JR Pepper will unravel how a single photograph can be staged, cropped, or retouched to transform fact into fiction. This compelling lecture will challenge your understanding of photography and reveal the inherently subjective nature of the medium.

JR Pepper is an adjunct professor of art history at CUNY Brooklyn College, a freelance lecturer, and a photographer known for her unconventional perspectives. With a BA and an MA focusing on Surrealism and spirit photography, her work has appeared in numerous gallery shows and publications. She is also the author of the upcoming “Buried Boston: America's Revolutionary Necropolis.”

Don’t miss this chance to explore the intricate relationship between photography and truth!
