📚 Lecture: "Our Cosmic Address: Where Are We in the Universe?"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Mark Popinchalk
Join us for an enlightening evening with Dr. Mark Popinchalk as we explore the concept of our cosmic address and what it means to pinpoint our location within the vast universe. This engaging lecture will take us through the historical understanding of where we fit in the cosmos and culminate in creating our very own “address” using modern astronomical insights.
Have you ever wondered what "street" our sun resides on within the Milky Way galaxy or what "city" the Milky Way calls home? Dr. Popinchalk will guide us through these fascinating questions and offer a glimpse at the shape of the universe's map.
As a postdoc at the American Museum of Natural History and adjunct professor at NYU, Dr. Popinchalk studies the ages of stars by observing their spin rates, combining humor with science as the host of the late-night talk show Science, Tonight! Aside from his academic pursuits, he enjoys planetarium presentations, ultimate frisbee, and baking bread.
Don't miss this opportunity to uncover the wonders of our place in the universe!
