📚 Lecture: “Memento Mori Eel - Taxidermy & Death Culture”
🎤 Speaker: Brant MacDuff
How do memories of the dead help us celebrate life? Join Brant MacDuff for a fascinating exploration of memento and reverence through a taxidermy-centric lens. This talk will delve into the intersection of animals and how humans perceive death.
We'll cover a variety of topics, including hunting, pet preservation, taxidermy in modern art, and even the intriguing story of a man in Australia who donated his skin to a museum. Brant will bring together these themes to illuminate our relationship with death and memory.
Brant MacDuff is a wildlife conservation and taxidermy historian, passionate about studying and writing on conservation strategy and economics. His book, The Shotgun Conservationist, serves as a crash course in wildlife conservation economics, viewed through the lens of hunting and fishing in America and beyond. As a taxidermy historian (yes, it’s a real thing!), he can tell you when and where a tiger skin rug was made—a skill he’s found surprisingly handy!
Don’t miss this opportunity to reflect on life and death with Brant MacDuff!
