📚 Lecture: “Institutional Critique: When Art Confronts the Museum”
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Ilk Yasha
Join us for a thought-provoking evening with Dr. Ilk Yasha as he explores the intriguing concept of institutional critique in the world of art. What happens when artists direct their focus not outward, but at the museum itself? This lecture will illuminate the hidden rules, power structures, and biases that shape the display, funding, and interpretation of art.
We will examine provocative works that have disrupted gallery spaces, challenged established museum narratives, and confronted systems of authority. Prepare to rethink the role of art institutions and understand how their frameworks can both empower and restrict artistic expression.
Dr. Ilk Yasha is an arts educator, independent curator, and multidisciplinary facilitator based in Brooklyn, NY. He currently works at New York University and the Studio Museum in Harlem, where he has helped to support emerging leaders in the arts and museum sectors, particularly those from historically marginalized backgrounds, including scholars, curators, and educators.
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain fresh insights into the intersection of art and institutional power with the esteemed Dr. Ilk Yasha!
