📚 Lecture: “Ghosts, Graves, and Gotham: The Eccentric Dead of NYC”

🎤 Speaker: Professor, JR Pepper

Beneath the busy streets and towering skyline of New York lies a forgotten world of mystery, eccentricity, and the macabre. Join JR Pepper as we uncover the city’s most unusual final resting places—graves hidden in plain sight, tombs with bizarre backstories, and memorials that defy explanation.

From a solitary tomb in the middle of a busy sidewalk to pet cemeteries, celebrity curiosities, and incredible mausoleums, we’ll explore the strange, poignant, and sometimes humorous tales of individuals who shaped—and continue to haunt—New York City.

Prof. JR Pepper is a Brooklyn-born photographer and lecturer who specializes in Surrealism and the history of photography. Her unique work in spirit photography has been featured in Vice.com and Musee Magazine. With over two decades of experience teaching art history at Brooklyn College, she is also an imaging specialist at The Burns Archive and a tour guide at Green-Wood Cemetery. She is the author of the newly published book Buried Boston.

Join us for an unforgettable journey into the eccentric dead of New York City!
