📚 Lecture: "Cultivating Habits of the Mind in the Age of AI"

🎤 Speaker: Ph.D. Student, Christian Carmody

In an age where tools like ChatGPT alleviate us from intellectual struggle—allowing us to know without effort, write without thought, and reason without confusion—what does it mean for our thinking? This engaging lecture will encourage reflection on the pressing question: What kind of thinkers are we becoming when we offload our intellectual effort to machines?

Through a blend of personal narrative, ancient symbolism, philosophy, and current events, Christian Carmody will discuss the risk of becoming less curious, too certain, and more dependent. An exploration of intellectual virtues, such as humility, attentiveness, and carefulness, will illuminate how we can cultivate independent thinking while embracing the capabilities of these powerful tools.

Christian Carmody is a Ph.D. student at The University of New Hampshire, studying intellectual humility and its role in constructive dialogue. He is also a Senior Researcher at the Research Institute for Learning and Development.
