The improved success in the replacement of extracted teeth raises the questions whether a periodontally compromised tooth should be retained or if it should be removed earlier to facilitate the prosthodontic treatment. The therapeutic decisions of retaining or removing periodontally compromised teeth is a complex process which can be influenced by various systemic and local factors. This presentation focuses on important factors to be considered, at the level of patients and sites, in the management of periodontally compromised posterior teeth.
Dr. Gary Yip graduated from the Melbourne Dental School in 1989. Subsequent to practicing as a general dentist in Melbourne for over 10 years, he completed his specialist training in Periodontics in Indiana 2004. Gary is a board-certified diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology since 2005. Upon his return to Melbourne, Gary has been involved with the continuing professional development program with the University of Melbourne as well as lecturing abroad.
