About this Event
This lecture will be delivered in person at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds and online.
Speakers: Justin Russell, Archaeologist and Richard Pincott of the Field Detectives
The development of rifles and projectiles has been well documented by historians since the mid-19th century. However, in 2017 metal detecting group The Field Detectives unearthed unusually shaped bullets outside the village of Langar (Nottinghamshire) that fail to configure with most modern theories of weapon development.
In this lecture, Justin and Richard will embark on a historical journey to uncover the identity of these mysterious objects as they seek to reinstate the bullets into their rightful place in the historic timeline of firearm development.
Come along to learn about the cutting-edge research behind these ‘odd balls’, why they have slipped out of history, and how they shed light on a nearly forgotten branch in the development of small arms ammunition.
