In many recent examples of contemporary art, artists have taken on the role of educator: giving lectures, organizing workshops, sharing information, and providing readings, resources and sometimes entire libraries to audiences. Many of these artists experiment with forms of pedagogy in their work, in order to invite participation, build community, and explore subjects they care passionately about. In this talk, Dr. Noni Brynjolson explores the fundamental links between art and education that form the basis of these projects, and looks at several different pedagogical projects by contemporary artists, including Suzanne Lacy and Tania Bruguera, that are collaborative, community-based and oriented towards social change. The evening will begin with a reception and refreshments with Dr. Brynjolson's lecture to follow at 6:30. Free and open to the public.
This event is made possible with the generous support of John and Carol Sue Andreasen.
