Discover how renowned American architect Alden B. Dow infused his architectural designs with color to shape both space and experience. This presentation explores Dow’s philosophy of color as more than decoration. It was a vital element of harmony, balance, and human connection to the built environment. Using examples from his work in the Brazosport area and beyond, the Lake Jackson Historical Association's Youth Education Manager, Jordan Weaver, will examine how Dow’s thoughtful color choices complemented natural surroundings, highlighted structural design, and impacted the people who spent time in these buildings. After completing her degree in art education at Stephen F. Austin State University, Jordan began her career teaching art at the elementary and junior high levels. She has been with the Lake Jackson Historical Association for two years now and enjoys putting together engaging and educational programs and resources that spark creativity for her community. LJHA's recent Mid-Century Modern Design Camp, among other projects, has inspired her to further research Alden's use of color in the workplace.
