About this Event
All members of the public are invited to attend this free lecture hosted by The UWA Institute of Agriculture. IOA Adjunct Associate Professor Dr Iqbal Khan, who is the Deputy Director of the Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development at Jamia Hamdard in India, will present on 'Neurotransmitter to plant signalling molecule: GABA advancing the salt stress in wheat'.
Dr Iqbal Khan is an Assistant Professor in the Botany Department, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development at Jamia Hamdard in India.
His research interest is on reducing stress impact through physiological markers. He has essentially targeted the staple crops including wheat and rice to reduce their environmental stress-susceptibility under the expected climatic pressures in the future and focused on meeting the sustainable development goals (SDGs) under such scenarios: Understanding on GABA-mediated source-sink metabolism, defence networks, and growth and agronomic outputs under salt stress in wheat plants.
Dr Khan has been honored with the Young Scientist Platinum Jubilee Award (NASI), Young Scientist Award (ISPP), R.H. Dastur Gold Medal Award (ISPP) and listed as a Highly Cited Researcher-2022 & 2023 (Clarivate; Plant & Animal Science). Dr Khan holds a PhD from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), India, and a post-doctoral fellow from International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines.
