In this talk, Dr. Naomi Aguiar will unpack the algorithms that fuel large language models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Characterai. She’ll include examples of how these algorithms work and the ways in which these models can respond and feel as if they are human – even though they are not. She’ll also discuss the social impacts of these large language models at the individual and social level, from interpersonal relationships to the transmission of social and cultural information. This lecture happens at the Philomath Museum.
