Using a literary work published in 1626 as a springboard (Sir Francis Bacon’s New Atlantis), Chris Stack will examine the concept of the fictophone, and how our centuries-long habit of imagining new musical instruments and sound possibilities dovetails with modern electronic musical instruments and music production tools.
Chris brings a rich and varied background to his role as Director of Marketing at the Sigal Music Museum. He began his career in the mid‑1980s as a printed‑circuit‑board designer at Computer Dynamics, and then dB‑tronics where over a decade he progressed from PCB design through marketing and engineering management roles. In 2007, he joined Moog Music as Marketing Manager—a dream move after years as a synthesizer enthusiast—where he helped launch flagship products including the Moog Guitar, and Taurus 3 Bass Pedals.
After Moog, he launched the ExperimentalSynth YouTube channel, became a beta‑tester for the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 relaunch, and did sound design for instruments like the Arturia MatrixBrute. He also helped organize industry events such as ContinuuCon, the Haken Continuum Conference. Chris joined the Sigal Music Museum organization first as a board member in late 2022 and then moved into his current position in the Summer of 2023.
